Tuesdays With The Angels-The Moon

A quote I live by was written by the seventeenth century Japanese haiku poet, Mizuta Masahide. It represented to him the meaning of life.
“Barn’s burned down,now I see the moon.”
Looking up at the moon is an important part of my own life. This quote helped me move forward after my daughter passed away as well as all the hard times of my life. The meaning of looking to the future with hope gave me comfort. I found hope in many places. From reading the late Reverend Norman Vincent Peale’s writings to watching Oprah’s inspirational TV shows, I found my own way to go on searching for life’s meaning.  I read and try to be kind always while taking in the blessings of God’s beautiful earth, sky and moon.
Whenever I look at the moon I know that I’m looking up not down or behind me. I’m searching for answers for I have dreams to still fulfill with as much inspiration as I can find. In my novels the moon is aways present. Some characters look up and moon bathe by it’s light. In my novel Town of Angels, Angel Ken reads by the light of the moon and he and the other angels sail on angels wings into the night helping others. From Masahide to Oprah, I’ve learned to look up in hope. This is what the angels have given me. They’ve given me the moon.

Tuesdays With The Angels-Angels vs Bully and Courage

Fort Courage is the place I go when trying to find peace. Our children must learn to find courage so they are able to handle bullying. Teaching children to find courage is one of the most important lessons a parent and educator can do. Remember a time when you were bullied? I do. And yet those times were lessons weren’t they? I’ve heard it said that the bully is a teacher of sorts. Bullies are really teaching us  how not to be like them. Finding a place in our hearts where courage lies  fills us  with triumph. Just as the Cowardly Lion in the Wizard of Oz found the courage he so desperately sought, adults and children alike can find  their own way to courage. For courage was always there inside the Lion’s heart. The angels made sure of that.

Tuesdays With The Angels-Angels and Fort Courage

There’s a place I go to whenever I need to. It’s not a place I can walk, drive or fly to but a place I can go to find peace in my own mind. I drove on a highway to New Mexico years ago after my daughter died. It seemed the angels had placed a sign on the way  just for me. It was near an Native American Reservation. I knew instantly the name was meant for the peace of mind I needed to pull myself to. It is such a beautiful name, Fort Courage.

That memory of the sign etched in my mind still helps me travel  the journey I am on to find peace. Over twenty years have come and gone but I know one thing for sure. All of us lose ones we love, all of us suffer pain and longing for those we must wait to see again in the great beyond.

But to find courage is a blessing. The angels have such a place in my life that I ask them all the time to give me courage and strength for the days ahead. I ask them please take me to Fort Courage. Help me find peace, the peace of knowing a beautiful reunion lies ahead..

Tuesdays With The Angels- Counteracting Bullying

I know a couple who went to a small high school years ago. Whoever thought of this ingenious way to have Prom in the high school probably didn’t realize they were implementing a possible solution to bullying. This is a  most wonderful idea for Prom night where  kids won’t feel left out or could be  subjected to bullying.

Students picked names to go to the Prom. Everyone has a date. Boyfriend and girlfriends have to go with whoever they picked from the hat. Those that might have felt left out or embarrassed were given respect by everyone because everyone had a date. Everyone was treated equally. The couple said to this day the high school runs the Prom this way. What a lovely thought, a way to counteract bullying. It’s a  team effort to go to Prom now and everybody wins.  And of course, remember what the angels know…the bully never wins.

Tuesdays With The Angels- Children with Special Needs and Bullying

Teaching children to handle bullying was primary in my teaching career. These children are most vulnerable yet can be taught tools to help. One teacher I admired taught a very timid student a most remarkable way to counteract the bullying. The teacher taught Tammy, a teenager,  to stand up for herself when other children would tease her by saying and spelling the word, R U D E!  Then Tammy  would add with a smile, “How rude!” It was remarkable to witness this  extremely quiet and shy teenage girl  to actually find power in her comment given with humor  back to those bullies. The teacher found a way to strengthen Tammy’s self esteem and Tammy  enjoyed her newfound strength. Teaching all children to stand up for themselves makes the angels sing.

Tuesdays With The Angels-Town of Angels

Town of Angels, my third novel in the Mystic Bay Series is available on Amazon in paperback and ebook. It was a long time coming writing this book so timely as bullying is a worthy topic of today.
A quote I wrote for my news piece,” Kindness is a strength and mixed with courage it can take a bully’s breath away.” I have found this to be true in my own life. As I wrote this book, I realized kindness is the very essence of my life with my family, friends and work. Giving to others, being gentle and kind is our gift from God.  Town of Angels was truly inspired by dreams and daydreams and thinking about angels.

Dream big and be kind along the way. I believe kindness is the truest expression of love.

Tuesdays With The Angels-Angel vs. Bully

In my new novel, Town of Angels, I decided to write a theme about bullying. I self reflected a lot as I wrote daily. I have never written my own account of bullying until now. For now more than ever is the time to step forward and make a statement not in fiction form but in truth. In high school there was a boy I’ll name Luke. He pestered me, yelled at me in the hallways and gave me dirty looks and told people vicious lies about me. I was friends with his girlfriend and he was jealous. I had little self esteem at the time due to unfortunate circumstances in my family and so I didn’t know how to handle it. There was no parent, teacher or counselor to help me yet I always knew God and his angels were there somewhere. I was so afraid of Luke I would never call him on his behavior. Instead, I took another route. I went on striving to do things I never thought  possible. I graduated college, grad school and had a blessed family. I was a Special Education teacher for twenty-five precious years. I’ve written three books and love helping as a volunteer for Love House Kids Program in Phoenix. I’ve come along way from the underachieving sensitive girl who let the bully in to hurt me. In reflection, I was always protected by the magnificent  love that comes from above. I hope to leave the earth as the best human being I can possibly become. You see, in Town of Angels, the bully doesn’t win of course. For love is more powerful than hate and loving yourself enough to pull through any unkindness can beat any bully at his game. Kindness, joy, hope and love are the enduring messages from the angels.

Tuesdays With The Angels-Earning His Wings

He was my student several years ago. Daniel, a boy with Down’s Syndrome had the love and support of a caring family and was a delight to teach. He flourished working in a supermarket in our program. He loved singing and one school day he said he was sorry for something he thought he did wrong by bringing his kazoo to class and singing me an I’m sorry song. His smile, the memory of his wonderful personality and love of singing will melt my heart forever. I recently saw him at a party given for him in his honor. He obviously has been an angel on earth to his family and friends.  To me Daniel earned his wings the day he was born! So many of the people with special needs light up the room when they enter. Their light is filled with kindness, innocence and love.

Tuesdays With The Angels-A Beautiful Angel Story

One of my dearest friends, Laura, told me she recently met a nice woman in a restaurant. The woman invited her to sit at an outside table where the conversation was friendly and turned after a while to angels. The woman told this story:

The woman’s sister had been gravely ill. Since her sister’s husband was one who sees angels he walked into their bedroom before she died to find a male angel sitting on the bed by his wife. The angel told his wife that she would be an angel when she passed away. Then the angel showed her a book. In the book were all the faces of the people she would help.

This is one of the most beautiful stories I’ve ever heard. The dying sister was truly comforted.  Not only had she been loved but her guardian angel came to tell her of her new angel life awaiting. What a serendipitous meeting it was for my friend Laura. She not only met a new friend but found comfort as did I in the loveliest of angel stories.

Tuesdays With The Angels-Angel vs Bully

I just completed Town of Angels, my third novel in the Mystic Bay series. I decided to write the character of Klaus, a bully, who comes to Mystic Bay because bullying is such a topic of our times.  It is with heartfelt passion that I wrote this story for the bully must never win. We are our children, grandchildren and future generations of children’s voices. I ask the angels everyday to help in all situations. I believe angels are with us unseen but present. My new novel was written with inspirations from angels through dreams, real life issues and those wonderful angels on earth we all know and love. Dear characters Madam Norma and Angel Ken work together in my novel to tame the bully. Will they? Town of Angels will be coming to you 2019!
